DPF / EGR removal

AC Tuning provides DPF and EGR removal in and around Norwich. Get in touch with a member of our team today. Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) filters and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves are installed in most modern cars, and are meant to restrict emissions and improve efficiency. However, these can fail or become clogged. At AC Tuning, we can remove these from your vehicle and improve its performance.

What is a DPF?

A DPF is equipped to most modern diesel engines to take out particles from the exhaust gases of diesel engines. This is done to meet various emission standards. However, while driving the filter fills up and the ECU will cause the engine to run with a higher exhaust temperature to burn any collected particles and turn them into soot. This is known as the DPF regeneration cycle. The regeneration causes the waste to be sent through the exhaust out into the atmosphere, making the whole concept overall questionable. Removing the DPF can improve fuel economy, increase performance, and eliminate the risk of DPF failure affecting the engine mode.

Why perform a DPF removal?

MOT testing only requires that the DPF filter box is visible. As long as the casing is present, the DPF itself does not have to be there.

Extracting a filter and retaining the original casing, along with an engine remap is a viable and legal solution. Off road vehicles especially benefit from both DPF & EGR removal, where all the available resources in terms of power can be achieved.

Benefits of DPF removal

Improved MPG
No more limp mode
Improved Performance

When combined with a performance and economy remap at the same time, the performance and economy improvements to the vehicle can be quite noticeable.

What is EGR, and what are the benefits of its removal?

A widely used method to try and reduce emissions is Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Modern engines recirculate some of their exhaust gases back into the engine. However, this causes a build-up of carbon deposits over time, which can result in an expensive failure to the system. Removing the EGR and re-programming the ECU eliminates this risk and also results in lower engine temperatures, improved throttle response, and better fuel economy.
